Xandr - DreamArcStudios Style Test

This is a style test featuring Xander, a character from DreamArcStudios' upcoming animated feature film, Aurora. It was made over the course of one week.

The end of this animation was initially supposed to have Xandr miss the ball as it came back down. It was scrapped due to both time constraints, and the belief that the new conclusion would be more amusing.

When deciding on a subject for a short animation to add to my reel, especially one that would be hand-drawn, I wanted a character that was capable of expressing a wide range of emotions. Recently, I have grown to identify with and really appreciate rabbits for their dainty yet cunning behavior. Additionally, rabbits are a popular subject in animation. They are complex and very expressive when stylized, and yet deceptively compact. A sneeze was my go-to action due to its combination of slow building action, quick, snappy ending, and its tendency to result in multiple complex facial expressions in rapid succession.
The name "Bunsneez", while being a combination of the words "bun" (as in bunny) and "sneeze" also sounds a bit like "bunnies" when said quickly enough. I couldn't ignore such a cute little detail, and decided then and there that this would be the name of this animation.
